Ways to Give

There are many ways you can help support your hospital. Your tax-deductible gift will help us provide the best care to every patient every day. You can support the work of your local hospital with a designated gift for a specific project, medical area, or where it is most needed. Your gift can help us to support the work of a key service area such as cardiac or cancer care, or be designated for medical technologies that save lives through early diagnosis of disease. Regardless of the area you choose to support, your gift will make a difference in the lives of others.

In your will

Including the foundation in your will is a very simple process and by making a bequest (a gift in your will), you can help support your hospital for years to come. You might consider giving specific property (such as real estate), a specific dollar amount, or a percent of your estate. You may use your will to benefit the hospital or medical area of your choice by instructing that the foundation receive a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a remainder amount. By making the foundation aware of your plans, we are able to fully understand your wishes. Please consult your attorney and financial advisors as appropriate. To learn more about making contributions through estate planning, please visit our informative Planned Giving Information pages. Please note that for this link, Wellmont Foundation has contracted with Stelter Inc., a private vendor, to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information for prospective benefactors.

Stocks and other property

Gifts of appreciated property can be particularly attractive as a way of avoiding capital gains taxation on stocks or other property that has grown in value. These gifts must be made through a transfer of ownership to Wellmont Foundation prior to its sale. Please contact us to arrange a broker-to-broker transfer.

Gifts of appreciated securities offer tax advantages including forgiveness of the tax on capital gain and an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities. You also can make gifts of property such as real estate, life insurance, retirement accounts, works of art, jewelry and valued collections. These gifts provide tax advantages and may require independent appraisals to meet Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines.

Your entire gift is used for its intended purpose

Wellmont Foundation is fortunate to have a long history of generous contributors who helped build an operating endowment fund of sufficient size that all of the Foundation’s operational expenses are paid through its income. As a result, every penny of your outright gift is able to be utilized towards the purpose for which it is intended. Event-related transactions are subject to reductions for accounting purposes.
