Learn more about Wellmont Hospice
When Bristol Regional Medical Center’s Hospice House opened its doors in 1996 it totally changed the face of hospice care in the region by offering a level of dignity and care at death that only an inpatient hospice house can provide. It is an accomplishment we all can be very proud of because community donations helped build it. Hospice care is rooted in key principles such as the affirmation of dying as a normal process, integration of spiritual, emotional, and psychological aspects of care for both patient and family, and focusing on relief of pain and preservation of dignity as intrinsic goals. Palliative care is a more recent extension of this care concept which serves patients with long-term, often terminal, illnesses which cannot expect to be cured. Palliative care patients face much of the same challenges of hospice patients but over a longer, less intense period of time. Wellmont Hospice has excelled in providing hospice and palliative care to the patients in our region, but there is still much more to be done. Your gift to support Wellmont Hospice House will help maintain and grow this special area of service. Give online to this fund.

Hospice care provides support and care for persons in the last phases of progressive, incurable illness so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible. Hospice focuses on helping the person maintain quality and comfort during the final stage of life. A central purpose of hospice is to provide effective management of pain or other symptoms of end-stage illness and supportive services to the ill person and his or her family. The primary location for hospice care is the patient’s home setting. The home is typically the patient’s most familiar environment in which the greatest sense of security and comfort can be experienced. Hospice care can be given anywhere the patient lives, including nursing homes and assisted-care facilities. The hospice team strives to provide the family with the confidence and skills necessary to make care at home possible. Wellmont Hospice has a team of qualified nurses, social workers, chaplains, counselors and trained volunteers to provide the support needed in the home. Your donation to Hospice Care at Holston Valley Medical Center will provide support and a resource for future expansion of this program. Give online to this fund.
