Our patients and their families are accompanied through their healthcare journey by our qualified and compassionate caregivers. The nurses, doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals help you when you are weak, tired, and defenseless. However, their jobs can leave them exhausted, frustrated, and unappreciated. This program offers a meaningful way to show your appreciation for a healthcare provider who was your Guardian Angel by making a donation in their honor. The caregiver will be notified of your gift and any comments you wish to provide will be shared (though gift amount will remain confidential). They will also be recognized among their peers for this honor. Unrestricted donations will be used for education and training, but you may designate your gift to the hospital or clinical area of your choice. Give online to this fund.

As the only certified primary stroke center in the region, the Primary Stroke Center at Bristol Regional Medical Center leads the way in exceptional stroke care. Bristol Regional is a founding member of the Appalachian Regional Stroke Center Network and is one of only three primary stroke centers in the state of Tennessee certified by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Because of these affiliations, even patients in the most rural areas of our region can receive the most effective stroke care quickly. The faster a patient receives treatment in a stroke, the better his or her outcomes are likely to be. By donating to the Primary Stroke Center at Bristol Regional Medical Center you will be helping combat this terrible affliction. Give online to this fund.

When Bristol Regional Medical Center’s Hospice House opened its doors in 1996 it totally changed the face of hospice care in the region by offering a level of dignity and care at death that only an inpatient hospice house can provide. It is an accomplishment we all can be very proud of because community donations helped build it. Hospice care is rooted in key principles such as the affirmation of dying as a normal process, integration of spiritual, emotional, and psychological aspects of care for both patient and family, and focusing on relief of pain and preservation of dignity as intrinsic goals. Palliative care is a more recent extension of this care concept which serves patients with long-term, often terminal, illnesses which cannot expect to be cured. Palliative care patients face much of the same challenges of hospice patients but over a longer, less intense period of time. Wellmont Hospice has excelled in providing hospice and palliative care to the patients in our region, but there is still much more to be done. Your gift to the Hospice House at Bristol Regional Medical Center will help maintain and grow this special area of service. Give online to this fund.

Many patients and their families who find themselves being treated at Bristol Regional Medical Center are a long way from where they call home. Unexpected and extended hospital stays place a difficult burden on loved ones in addition to their concerns over the patient. Since 1997 the McGlothlin-Street Hospitality House has served as a home-away-from-home for hundreds of families each year. It was made possible by generous donations from the families of James W. McGlothlin and Nick D. Street. Located conveniently on the campus of Bristol Regional Medical Center, it provides a safe, clean place for our patient’s families while their loved one is being treated. Gifts to McGlothlin-Street Hospitality House will be used for ongoing upgrades, maintenance, and operations. Give online to this fund.

Through this fund, employees are able to attend seminars, college courses and continuing education classes to keep them up-to-date with the advances in the healthcare industry. Bristol Regional Medical Center teamed up with YWCA in 1999 to provide exceptional child care services for its employees, many of whom have work schedules that conflict with traditional child care center hours. The result was a state-of-the-art center on campus that features exceptional, developmentally appropriate care, reasonable rates, operating hours compatible with health care worker shifts, and highly qualified staff. These facilities were made possible through generous donations from the 1995 Capital Campaign and Citizen Hall of Fame events. However, the nature of such a high-quality, stand-alone center with extended operating hours is that it is expensive to run; yet care is provided at rates which are comparable with area facilities for both employees and community families. Your gift to the Child Development Center will help assure Bristol Regional Medical Center will be able to continue providing this important service to its healthcare providers, which is also an important tool for recruiting and retaining first-class clinical staff. Hospitals have an innate spiritual focus because on a daily basis within its walls people face birth, death, suffering, and healing. Most think of spiritual support systems within hospitals as existing primarily for patients, but it actually extends far beyond - to family members, physicians, clinical care providers, and hospital leadership. Faith can be as much a tool of healing as any drug or procedure and the pastoral care staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center helps to acknowledge and address this aspect of healing. Your gift to Pastoral Care will help strengthen and expand this important area of need. Give online to this fund.

Hospitals exist through the services of their employees and like all people, they themselves can experience tragedy and crisis in their personal lives. The Employee Emergency Fund was created as a means to address the emergent financial needs of the Bristol Regional Medical Center employee family. The fund is maintained exclusively by gifts donated from employees and hospital supporters. A volunteer committee of employees evaluates emergency fund requests and makes the final determination. Previous financial support of the emergency fund is not required nor considered in relation to requests. Your contribution to Bristol Regional Medical Center’s Employee Emergency Fund will help continue this important endeavor. Give online to this fund.

Last Resort Fund
Part of providing health care to every patient regardless of their ability to pay is that you touch people from every walk and stage of life. There are unfortunate constraints in what can be done within normal operations but certain circumstances still beg for intervention. For example, a woman treated in the Emergency Room who would like to leave the husband who put her there but doesn’t have enough money to buy gas. Or the man who comes in with heart problems but does not have the money to pay for the medication he needs immediately – and helpful social programs take time. These are the cases where the Last Resort Fund can make all the difference in these peoples’ lives. Your support will help assure Bristol Regional Medical Center can help in these dire circumstances. Children’s Miracle Network
Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is an alliance of premier hospitals for children developed with one goal in mind - to save and improve the lives of sick children. Children’s medical service areas at each of our hospitals receive CMN support, and you can designate your gift to the hospital in your community. Your support makes it possible for an exceptional level of care to be given to every child served at our hospitals. CMN funds support the programs and services of Wellmont Children's Health Services by purchasing equipment and materials. For many sick children, Wellmont is the only place they can go to get the sophisticated care they need without having to travel to a far-away city. A recent groundbreaking alliance with Knoxville’s East Tennessee Children’s Hospital further supports that commitment. East Tennessee Children’s Hospital is the pediatric referral hospital for the region and the only state-designated comprehensive regional pediatric center in East Tennessee. Give online to this fund.

Wellmont-King College Nursing Scholarships
Each year our hospitals hire many new nurses and each year the pool of nurses gets even smaller. In 2005 Wellmont Health System announced a strategic plan to help address this shortage by partnering with King College to form the Wellmont-King College School of Nursing. This program offers area students the opportunity to pursue nursing and offers our region a real world solution to the nursing shortage. Courses are offered in both Bristol and Kingsport locations, where students participate in both academic and clinical training. Your contribution to support student scholarships for the Wellmont-King College School of Nursing will help these current and future nurses achieve their educational goals while assuring our hospitals will have the best-trained nurses both now and in the future. Each scholarship recipient who is offered a position signs a length of service guarantee to assure that your support will help our Wellmont hospitals. The annual need for this program is approximately $500,000. Your gift to help fund scholarships can be made in honor or memory of someone whose life has been touched by nursing care. You may be well aware that the demand for blood constantly outpaces supply but you may not realize that only 5% of eligible blood donors take the time to give. Marsh Regional Blood Center collects, tests, stores and distributes approximately 25,000 units of blood and blood products annually to sixteen regional hospitals. To make donating as convenient as possible, Marsh utilizes three “bloodmobiles” that are driven throughout northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia. Unfortunately the mobile units currently in use are 16-20 years old and together the three must travel over 168,000 miles each year! New mobile units cost $250,000 each and the Blood Center would like to begin replacing them one at a time. Careful management of the Blood Center allows them to break-even despite uncontrollable factors such as indigent care and below-cost reimbursements, but vehicle maintenance has gone through the roof and there isn’t funding to purchase new mobile units any time soon. Your gift to Marsh Regional Blood Center will help assure the patients of our region will continue to have an adequate supply of blood. Give online to this fund.

Our focus is on the development of key initiatives that offer new capabilities for the treatment of critical health issues. The conditions these institutes treat represent the leading causes of death in our region, along with traumatic life-threatening injuries, and chronic diseases. These institutes will ultimately be represented by physical centers located at both Bristol Regional Medical Center and Holston Valley Medical Center—though an individual hospital may pilot programs initially. The institutes will house new, leading edge equipment and resources and develop best practice modalities that foster new developments in the continuum of care across the system. In addition, the institutes will bring new specialists to the area so that more people can stay close to home to receive the care they need. The development of new clinical research initiatives and partnerships with medical schools and universities will also be a part of the institutes. We will also focus resources on the advancement of existing centers to remain at the leading edge of care. Give online to this fund.

Funding in this area provides a way for the people of our region to influence healthcare on a national level. Creating the safest, most error-free hospital environments is our highest aspiration. Existing national benchmarks for safety and error-free behavior are not sufficient to achieve the level of care we feel every patient deserves. Patient safety is paramount. Working with the world’s foremost experts, Wellmont has joined with other health systems devoted to establishing a new model. Together, we will lead the nation in best practices for patient safety and the elimination of medical errors. Funding to advance this initiative will result in landmark research and help us to quickly translate it to improved processes and performance. Give online to this fund.

Our children’s hospital and pediatric centers located throughout the region provide the best care to children from Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Western North Carolina. Through our alliance with East Tennessee Children’s hospital and our pediatric hospitalist partnership with Holston Medical Group, our children’s hospital connects with resources that boast the most comprehensive array of children’s healthcare services in the Tri-Cities. To multiply the existing resources within our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatric Centers, funding is needed to support the expansion of the Hospital at Holston Valley and to advance all centers within our hospitals with new specialized equipment for children. Every year, millions of dollars are needed to provide high quality care. Give online to this fund.
